In-town Fernie Trails

For visitors with small children or those looking for a quick escape, the Main Town Loop follows the beautiful Elk River and is located just steps from the front entrance of the Park Place Lodge Hotel in Fernie. The Great Northern Loop and Old Stumpy Trail are also excellent options for an easier trail with great valley views that that can be accessed directly from the hotel.

Fernie Hikes with a Reward

Is your goal to visit a cascading waterfall, giant old-growth cottonwoods or a stunning mountain viewpoint overlooking Fernie? All of these goals are attainable by venturing out on three of our favorite hiking trails near Fernie: Fairy Creek Falls Trail, the Ancient Cottonwoods Trail or the Castle Mountain Trail. All three trails are located within a 7 minute drive from the Park Place Lodge and offer half-day hiking adventures with access to an amazing reward at the end of the trail.

Epic Hiking Adventures

For those interested in a bigger excursion, plan a full day hike on Heiko’s Trail (Mountain Lakes Trail), the Mt. Hosmer Trail, or the SpineBack Trail at Island Lake Lodge. From old growth forests, to wild alpine flowers to stunning Rocky Mountain views from over 6000 feet, these challenging but rewarded trails are the high point of any visit to Fernie BC. Heiko’s Trail, in particular, is considered by many avid hikers as one of the best day hiking trails in the Canadian Rockies complete with cascading waterfalls, giant caves and ancient cedars.
